Pakistan has successfully flight-tested its first fully indigenous air-to-air missile, named Faaz, according to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in Rawalpindi. The Faaz air-to-air missile is described as a milestone for Pakistan’s defence industry.
What ISPR Said About the Faaz Test
ISPR says the flight test was successful. It calls the missile the country’s first air-to-air missile built entirely at home. According to the release, the test shows the technical maturity, innovation and self-reliance of Pakistan’s defence industry.
Terminal Guidance and Combat Role
The missile is equipped with an advanced terminal guidance system. This system helps it identify and track its target accurately in the last and most critical stage of flight.
As a result, ISPR says the missile can destroy enemy air targets from long distances. These include fighter jets and other airborne targets.
What It Means for the Pakistan Air Force
ISPR says that adding the Faaz to the Pakistan Air Force will improve its operational flexibility. In addition, it should strengthen air-defence strategy and speed up response times. The release adds that this will make national defence and border protection stronger.
Who Attended the Test
Senior armed forces officers attended the test flight. So did leading scientists and engineers. They worked on the research, design and development of the weapon system.
Leadership Congratulates the Team
The President, the Prime Minister, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Defence Staff and all services chiefs congratulated the team. They praised the scientists, engineers and defence experts who worked on the project.
