ISLAMABAD / DUBAI: Following an unauthorized transfer of billions of dollars through a security breach at Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, the company has released an official statement detailing the root cause, financial impact, and user protection measures. According to Binance’s initial investigation, the security incident occurred due to an intrusion into a DevOps engineer’s laptop. The hacker exploited this access to reach the service container and pass unauthorized fund withdrawal requests. The company has explicitly confirmed that no wallet private keys were leaked during the attack, and a detailed technical post-mortem report will be published after the full investigation.

The total financial loss resulting from this security breach is estimated at approximately $6.3 billion. However, Binance—in collaboration with other blockchain partners and on-chain security teams—acted swiftly to freeze roughly $3 billion of the affected assets. The exchange has reassured all users of 100% financial protection, stating that user funds remain completely safe and the company will fully cover all losses using its Emergency Insurance Fund (SAFU) and additional corporate reserves. Furthermore, an updated ‘Proof of Reserves’ will be issued once all security fixes are completely implemented.

Considering the gravity of the situation, Binance has temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals on the exchange, while permissions for all affected wallet addresses were revoked immediately. The exchange’s technical teams are working round the clock, collaborating with international law enforcement agencies and blockchain intelligence partners to recover remaining funds and identify the perpetrators. Binance has advised all users not to pay attention to rumors and to rely solely on information released through Binance’s official channels.
